Pachymetry

Publication date: 26.08.2019

This examination is particularly important for patients with corneal degeneration, before laser correction of vision defects or relaxing incisions. Since corneal changes are a risk factor of glaucoma development, and thin cornea is additionally a risk factor of glaucomatous neuropathy development, this is an obligatory examination for patients encumbered by glaucoma.
The device used for central cornea thickness is called an ultrasound pachymeter with a threshold frequency of 20 MHz and the acoustic velocity dispersion of 1400-2000 m/s, which corresponds with the velocity of sound dispersion in a cornea.
