Heine-Medin Disease (infection with poliovirus) is a dangerous, infectious disease caused by the poliovirus, called also polio or infantile paralysis. The disease leads to unsymmetrical paralysis of lower limbs and (if paralysis goes up the body) to paralysis of upper limbs.
Paralysis of breathing and circulatory systems is very dramatic. This is a foodborne virus, it attacks spinal cord cells, in particular motor neurons. The disease may cause lasting paralysis.
